Hélène de Gottal creates ethereal artworks that are referring to still life and Vanitas by way of questioning the human condition and the finiteness of life. Whether they are ephemeral or lasting, her works explore topics of memory and recollection, particularly regarding death. Her searching process starts with drawing, then with the gathering of hair, rubber bands, hairpins and, finally with the creation of objects. De Gottal uses various techniques, from traditional bobbin lace or crochet to modern practices such as felt or video.

Born in 1946 in France. Lives and works between Marcilly-sur-Eure and Paris.
Between collective myth and individual story, painter Gérard Garouste has constructed a complex body of work that encompasses multiples themes and subjects. The artist explains that his chief concern «is to question the finality of painting, the status of the artwork as an image, and its perception by the viewer.» Garouste’s creations tend to reflect ideas regarding universality and timelessness: love; death; wisdom; and madness. His paintings are not only figurative, but also narrative. Beside his canvases, he regularly makes sculptures, engravings and illustrates texts with drawings or gouaches.

Born in 1952 in France. Lives and works in Grenoble.
Patrick Gimel started creating ‘home made’ cartoons when he was 15; finding there an escape to his health problems that had forced him to remain isolated from the world. Later, he began drawing, improvising on the paper with Indian ink and felt-tipped pens. His large-format works, with series of twelve, combine architectural features, decorative motifs and vegetal or organic forms. At the same time, since 1998, Patrick Gimmel has accumulated more than two thousand post card sized drawings, all dated and numbered: a daily basis writing for this image passionate. That way, he mentally escapes the small perimeter within he lives enclosed in the company of his mother since he is five years old.

Robert Gligorov's photographic work seeks to shock the viewer. Each image is a provocation to the imagination, an attempt to awake the viewer’s feelings from its state of lethargy. Confronting a society accustomed to sophisticated and extreme forms of visual communication, the artist amplifies the shock value of his work in order to compete with the torrent of images that cloud our visual field. Gligorov’s photographs use unexpected combinations of human, animal and vegetal life to explore controversial issues like religion, violence and sexuality.

Born in 1953 in the USA. Lives and works in New York and Paris.
Nan Goldin has been taking intimate, personal and spontaneous photographs of her family, acquaintances, friends and lovers for more than 40 years. During her first experiments as a photographer, when still a teenager, her images focused on drag queens as community, in a celebration of their subcultural lifestyle. Since then, she has documented other subcultures, music scenes and has addressed the themes of sexuality, drugs use, AIDS, violence, obsession, and suicide. Goldin’s richly colored snapshot-like images are often motivated by her personal experiences and her relationship with the photographed ones.
At the end of the 1970’s she began displaying her work in the format of slide show, accompanied by a soundtrack. The first one, shown in a New York nightclub, was a constantly evolving project named The Balad of Sexual Dependency, which would grow to hundreds of images without a restricted but yet meaningful thematic structure.

Born in 1972 in Spain. Lives and works in Madrid.
Germán Gómez González works essentially with photography, incorporating many conceptual elements in his creations. He deals with subject matters related to human nature and identity. His interest for the human figure has always been an important part in his works, especially in the sculptural portraits made with fragments of bodies. “I can not conceive the photography without being autobiographical”, explains the artist. “I photograph as if I was writing a diary, and my language has always been the portrait.”
