Les Artistes

"Resonance(s)" april - june 2014

Born in 1937 in Italy. Lives and works in Milan.

Emilio Isgrò started his career by writing lyrics and up to the 1960s his interest was focused on the Concrete and Visual Poetry movements. An inspired balance between linguistic and iconic elements characterizes his visual poems. He developed the technique of “cancellatura”, with which he erases words in newspaper articles, books and encyclopedias, not as a method of destruction or removal, but instead as an approach to reveal or highlight what is hidden. With these conceptual experimentations, Isgrò observes in a critical and sarcastic way the contemporary civilization, the consumer society, the press and the advertising.
