Les Artistes

"Young Collectors" september - december 2013

Born in 1982 in the USA. Lives and works in Los Angeles.

Artist and writer, Alex Israel draws inspiration from Hollywood and the film industry. His works celebrate Los Angeles cultural history and personalities, mixing references as broad as David Hockney, Ken Price, Gauguin, Avatar or even tropical fishes. His creations range from pastel-color panel paintings to flat sculptures’ self-portrait. Israel deals with questions relative to the cult of the celebrities, the youth obsession, and the allure and overbearing culture of Hollywood.
