Les Artistes

"Young Collectors" september - december 2013

Born in 1969 in France. Lives and works in Paris.

Urban artist Invader chose his name in reference to the Japanese game Space Invaders (1978), which aims to defeat waves of aliens with a laser cannon to gain as many points as possible. Numerous references and parodies were made since its release. Invader’s mosaic creations are inspired by the low definition graphics, with small, colored tiles replacing the pixels, and representing characters not only from Space Invaders, but also other early video games. The artist installs his creations in urban spaces and documents what he calls ‘Invasion’, with photographs, books and maps showing where to find his mosaics. To this date, the artist has covered 82 cities throughout the world, using more than one and a half million of mosaic squares to build a web of space invaders.
