"Icon(s)" april - july 2015

Born in Greece in 1976, he lives and works in Athens.

Trained as a painter, Stelios Faitakis, also known as Bizare, is a pioneer figure in the street art movement in Athens since the 1990s. Faitakis creates large-scale political and social allegories (e.g. images of political activism, corruption, or manifestos for the freedom of speech) in a highly personal style which mixes ancient Byzantine iconography, German expressionism, Italian Quattrocento and Mexican muralist art. Aside from Athens, he has created in situ murals in Denmark, Italy, Kiev and the United States.
