Les Artistes

 "Pair(s)" september - december 2015

Born in France in 1959, he lives and works in Paris.

Damien Cabanes is a French sculptor and painter. As a painter, he has painted many (self-) portraits, landscapes and abstract paintings; his sculptures are both abstract and figurative. Color is a key element in his art, with the artist being inspired by Matisse and Cézanne. Furthermore, in his paintings, the brush strokes are always visible, in a style that reminds one of German Expressionism. “This is what I’m looking for, this kind of childhood, and there is, in my approach, a playful and very simple style. (…) Any way, the main idea is to remain as simple as possible: what interests me is the efficiency of the simple gesture.” – Damien Cabanes
