Born in 1934 in France. Lives and works in Arles.
The work of Lucien Clergue combines a subtle artistic sensibility with an innate sensuality. His life and career is marked by his encounters with Pablo Picasso and Jean Cocteau, both of whom supported the early photographer’s work, but also became close friends. Beside the portraits of his famous acquaintances, there are two significant themes in Clergue’s body of work: nudes and bullfighting. His photographs illustrate and are intrinsically bound with his native Provence.
