Les Artistes

"Young Collectors" september - december 2013

Born in 1972 in the USA. Lives and works in Los Angeles.

Aaron Curry started out as painter and later created sculptures and collages. According to him, his artworks exist somewhere between two and three dimensions: “I guess I’m always trying to get my paintings to come out into the space three dimensionally while also trying to get my sculptures to do the opposite, to flatten into the walls around them.” Curry gives his pieces biomorphic shapes, exploring the contrasts between the warmth of natural wood and the artificial appearance of industrial colors, and between the hand-made and the mass-market product. His work is replete with references, from Surrealism to tribal art, from science fiction to tabloid press, from Pablo Picasso to Modernist sculpture.
