Les Artistes

"Struggle(s)" april - june 2012

Born in 1973 in England. Lives and works in London.

Nigel Cooke is known for his paintings of gloomy psychological landscapes, sometimes peopled by degenerate characters. His reflexive and critical canvases combine autobiographical elements with fiction. He is interested in exploring the medium of painting and in producing an art that reinvents itself. His paintings are the result of the artist’s preoccupation with grandeur – both of scale and subject – and attention to strong, beautifully executed details.
