Mondongo, a traditional tripe stew from Argentina, is also the name of the Argentinian art collective, formed by the trio Juliana Lafitte (1974), Manuel Mendanha (1976) and Agustina Picasso (1977). The name was chosen as a symbol for their aims as artists: to bring art to the common people and to make of their creations a 'dish of many ingredients'.
Working together since 1999, the use of different materials is one of Mondongo’s most distinctive and innovative aspects. Plastic, iron, cotton threads, plasticine, but also chewing gum, meat and breadcrumbs; almost everything has been used in their collages. They made a portrait series, featuring from the Spanish Royal Family to Maradona, where each work combines a play between material and personality. Mondongo’s oeuvre is full of social criticisms and reflections on modern life.
