Painter and photographer Marilyn Minter was born in 1948 in Louisiana, USA. She lives and works in New York.

Minter graduated in Fine Arts from the University of Syracuse and has been dedicating herself both to commercial work and her personal projects. At the beginning of her career, she explored sexuality and erotic imagery, trying to get to the humor and irony behind them. Minter painted big and realistic pictures of hard-core pornography that scandalized public and critics in the 80s.

For the last decade she has been making colorful pictures that mimic fashion spreads and beauty advertisements, but with something off, like smeared makeup. The artist questions idealized standards of beauty and representations of glamour in the fashion industry.
